Red Squirrel Lodge 07, Loch Rannoch Highland Club

Nice setting, but not worth a repeat visit. Positive: The location was lovely — quiet and scenic, right in the heart of the Highlands. The staff were genuinely helpful and pleasant throughout our stay. The beds and linens were clean and well kept, which made for a comfortable night's sleep after long days out exploring. Negative: The property looked quite different from the listing photos — the pictures seem to be from when the building was newer, but in person the lodge felt considerably more dated. A few practical gaps stood out: there were no basic toiletries provided in the bathroom (shower gel, toothpaste, etc.), and the kitchen had no cooking basics like oil, salt, or pepper, which we hadn't expected to have to bring ourselves for a self-catering stay. The laundry facility was coin-operated only — a card or contactless option would be a welcome update. Waste management around the property also felt poorly organised, and reception being around 1.5km from the lodge itself was genuinely inconvenient, especially for check-in and check-out.

Great stay. Positive: The studio apartment we booked was a bit dated but the view made up for it all. The lodges were exceptional. Negative: Uncomfortable bed in studio.

Positive: The location of the property is beautiful. This was our second time staying at the Highland Club and we'll be back. The apartments are well equipped, and have everything you need for a self catering stay. They are clean and well kept. Any issues are dealt with quickly and efficiently. Staff are very friendly and helpful. Negative: The fixtures and fittings are a bit on the older side and it is very obvious that the decor has not been updated for a while. Majority of the furniture is quite dated in look but clearly very well cared for.
